John K's Drawing: Lesson One

"You can go to animation school, spend a $100,000 and not learn a damn thing
about the basics of good animation drawing- OR you can buy a Preston Blair book
for $8 and learn it all in a couple months. You pick.If you learn the principles
correctly, you will be able to draw in any style today. You'll be miserable
having to dumb down your abilities- but you will be in demand. --John
Kricfalusi

INTRODUCTION

The internet offers animation students opportunities that
have never existed before. The one I'm about to tell you about is the chance of
a lifetime. How would you like to learn to draw for animation from one of the
greatest cartoonists of the golden age, and one of the greatest current
cartoonists? Here's your chance...Read this important note from John Kricfalusi before reading any
further.
"

Here's my drawings for lesson one. I might add some more egg drawings, but I'm especially pleased with my second page of characters.

Tips for Ivan:

Proportions-be careful to get the proportions the same as Preston's

Lines- Don't draw black ink lines on top of your pencil lines. Your lines and shapes are wobbly

Shapes-look closer at your shapes VS Preston's

get some tracing paper and trace Preston's shapes then lay the tracing paper drawings over your own drawings to see where you are off

Write notes next to the mistakes

then redraw the drawings, trying to correct the mistakes.

Good luck!

Your pal,

John

Okay, to fix the proportions and shapes I'm going to use that tracing and comparing method. And no more dark lines.

Thanks John. Here's the first update: http://ivandstuff.blogspot.com/2006/05/drawing-lesson-one-update.html
